Hi,
I have a cisco 837 that I have a saved config from. The 837 is now faulty and I need to run up another and restore the config (via tftp on my laptop) and send it out to replace.
1.) I have another 837 that I need to reset as I don't know the password.
2.) What commands do I need to use to restore the config from my laptop?
Thanks

Hi,
For password recovery:
For restoring the configuration on the new router, you can simply log into the router and copy and paste the configuration from your laptop to your router under conf t.

I can copy and paste the whole lot in one go? Or in stages? Will it just overwrite what's already on the config?
Thought maybe I could just tftp it back?

Hi,
If you want to tftp it use:
copy tftp: startup-config
But i always use to do copy and paste in stages, in order to review what i am copying.

Start cisco from console and press Break 1 time per 2 sec.
When cisco come to rommon type confreg 0x2142
Like this:
rommon 1 confreg 0x2142
rommon 2 reset
After reboot router, ignor save configuration
Type no after each setup question, or press Ctrl-C in order to skip the initial setup procedure
Type enable at the Router> prompt.
Type copy startup-config running-config
Type show running-config (u see conig)
After
conf t
username xxxxxx privilege 15 password xxxxxxx
end
conf t
write memory
After Configuration register is 0x2102

Great, then copy and paste the backup I have? Or better to use tftp?

It is up to you.
First try TFTP

Will the tftp put on exactly the same config as the backup? So I don't need to do anything else?
