Hi,

MPLS stands for Multi Protocol Label Switching, its a way of switching packets based on labels (fast way of packet switching on backbones, plus the extra available features that it introduces), review this document and it'll supply you with the elementary facts:

read the documents Mohammed provided, but please beware of it's complexity before deploying it in production environment. Meaning you should really know the purpose of why you want it and be able to understand what is going on.

MPLS is a packet-forwarding technology which uses labels to make data forwarding decisions. With MPLS, the Layer 3 header analysis is done just once (when the packet enters the MPLS domain).
