It is possible that a switch could fail after a week in service. Are there any lights lighted up or blinking on the switch? If you connect a PC to the console port do you get any response or any output on the console? If you connect a PC to the console port and power cycle the switch do you get output on the console? If you will answer these questions we may get closer to solving your problem.
