CSM Client-side and Server-side VLANs

Hello,

I'm trying to configure my CSM using RP mode. I'm getting confused when creating the vlans. My 6509 has about 10 VLANs configured on it - all for servers. I am only running SLB on one of those VLANs. Which vlan do I configure as the client if there will be 1000s of networks from all over the world connecting to my vservers. Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong, I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

The CSM just needs access to your servers and client.

You don't need 1 client vlan and 1 server vlan.

A typical design is to have something like this

Outisde ---- MSFC---- Vlan-X----CSM ---- Vlan-Y---servers

If you already have your servers in a vlan, you just attach the CSM to those vlans.

Then, for Vlan-X, you can create a new vlan that would exist just for MSFC-CSM communication and you create a default route on the CSM to point at the MSFC.

Does VLAN-X have to be a new VLAN or can it be an existing managment VLAN (VLAN 100 in my case) on the switch?

it can be an existing vlan.

I personally prefer to use a new one to make sure only csm traffic goes through it.

But that's just a personal choice.
