Sup-4 on Catalyst 4500 vs. Sup-32 PISA on Catalyst 6500

Which Supervisor Module would have faster performance on Layer-3 routing? Supervisor-4 on a Catalyst 4506 or a Supervisor-32 PISA on a Catalyst 6506? I would like to know as I am planning an upgrade next year. This is for a medium-sized collapsed core/distribution-layer.

Thanks.

I think Sup-4 on Catalyst 4500 will be the better choice. For more information please click following URL

The PFC3B card makes Sup32 PISA the clear winner.

There are a tons of stuff you can run in hardware with PISA that you would have to run in sofware with the SupIV.

See both Supervisor data sheets and you be the judge.

Hi

I completely agree with Edison on this. As a further point if you are using this to do all your inter-vlan routing etc, the 6500 switch is a better investment in the long term. It is Cisco's premier switch and if you find you need more throughput you could upgrade your supervisor from a Sup32 to a Sup720.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and feedback. I really appreciate it!
