We are currently in the process of upgrading from ACS 2.3.6 to the newest ACS appliance. Is there any way to export the user information from the 2.3.6 box?

Yes, You can authenticate direct with WINDIWS NT AUTHENTICATION.

You can take backup of Old ACS server configuration you canupload the same into new that will also help you to configure users automatically

Follow below procedure to backup/restore configuration:

It is gives an option of Configuration back up or User back up on step 5 an 6.

Step 1 In the navigation bar, click System Configuration.

Step 2 Click ACS Restore.

The ACS System Restore Setup page appears.

The Directory box displays the drive and path to the backup directory most recently configured in the Directory box on the ACS Backup page.

Beneath the Directory box, ACS displays the backup files in the current backup directory. If no backup files exist, c:\acs-bups appears in place of filenames.

Step 3 To change the backup directory, type the new drive and path to the backup directory in the Directory box, and then click OK.

ACS displays the backup files, if any, in the backup directory that you specified.

Step 4 In the list below the Directory box, select the backup file that you want to use to restore ACS.

Step 5 To restore user and group database information, select the User and Group Database check box.

Step 6 To restore system configuration information, select the ACS System Configuration check box.

Step 7 Click Restore Now.

ACS displays a confirmation dialog box indicating that performing the restoration will restart ACS services and log out all administrators.

Step 8 To continue with the restoration, click OK.

ACS restores the system components that you specified by using the backup file that you selected. The restoration should require several minutes to finish, depending on the components that you selected to restore and the size of your database.

When the restoration is complete, you can log in to ACS again.

Hi,

You cannot directly restore backup from 2.3 to any difference any version.

Here are the steps that you need to follow,

to upgrade to ACS 3.3 you need to follow the upgrade of ACS thrice. From 2.3 you need to

upgrade to 2.6.4. Then from 2.6.4 you need to upgrade it to 3.0.4 and from 3.0.4 you can

upgrade ACS to 3.3.3 and finally acs 3.3.3 to 4.1

In short.

Step 1: Upgrade 2.3 to 2.6.4

Step 2: Upgrade 2.6.4 to 3.0.4.

Step 3: Upgrade 3.0.4 to 3.3.3

Step 4: Upgrade 3.3.3 to 4.1

Now you have to take backup from acs 4.1 and restore it to new acs appliance.

If I understand correctly, we have to upgrade our solaris box with each version mentioned above until we have 4.1 and then we will be able to export the user information? Is this correct?

This sounds like it is not worth the trouble. Would you agree? Should we just enter the users in manually? On the grand scale, there are not that many users.

Mark,

You did not mention that acs is on Solaris. There was a conversion tool that can be obtained from your accounts team, but this was long time back. Not sure if they still provide it.

I would suggest you to manually add users in the appliance.
