Hi Experts,

I am trying to find this info but to no avail. What is the default setting for the speed / duplex for the interface below?

There is no indication. Is it set to auto,100 or some other parameters?

...................................

interface FastEthernet0/21

switchport access vlan 30

switchport mode access

no snmp trap link-status

spanning-tree portfast

----

Thanks in advanced.

Cindy,

The default speed/duplex should be auto. IOS doesn't display most default configuration. However, you can do a show int (fastethernet0/21) and it would show you what's the speed/duplex setting the port is set to and what speed/duplex the port has successfully negotiated is displayed within brackets.

Thanks Sundar.

I have checked and you are right. As I need to find out if a device plugged into the interface, the interface will be influenced by the devices' speed/duplex as it is set to Auto or it was controlled by the default value of the interface.

Thanks and have rated your reply. :)

HI, [Pls Rate if HELPS]

For any Interface in Switch the Factory Default Setting for Speed and Duplex will be AUTO.

ie., Speed = AUTO & Duplex = ATUO

You need to configure the Speed and Duplex settings based on your requirement.

You can verify the current setting with Command as:

show interface FastEthernet0/21

Hi Guru,

Thanks for your reply. Another question follows is..what if the switch port set to AUTO and the devices that plug in to the switch Port also set to AUTO...

What will that speed/duplex turn out to be?

Thanks in advanced.

HI, [PLS RATE if HELPS]

Assuming the Maximum capability of Catalyst Switch and NIC of PC is 1000 Mbps & Full-Duplex;

Configured as:

------------------------------

PC NIC (Speed/Duplex) = AUTO

Switch Interface(Speed/Duplex) = AUTO

Resulting Catalyst Speed / Duplex:

--------------------------------------------

1000 Mbps, Full - Duplex

Please refer the Attached Document for your reference (Valid Speed / Duplex Configuration Table):
