6513 and 4507 Fibre Uplinks

Unanswered Question

Hi,

I'm currently installing a 6513 onto a network that currently has a 4507 as it's core, the 6513 will co-exist with the 4507 as the core. The question I have is that what would be the best way forward to connect this 2 switches, the 6513 has redundant Sup720's and the 4507 has redundant Sup2+. I was thinking of using etherchannel to merge the 4 Gig Uplinks together and trunk the vlans across this link, not sure if this is standard practice and would appreciate any feedback.

Cheers

Paul

I have this problem too.

Standard practice is to use etherchannel, like this:

6513-SUP1 <--> 4507-SUP1

6513-SUP2 <--> 4507-SUP2

Boxes will load balance the traffic across both etherchannels, if none of them will be blocked by STP.

The reason I wouldn't go for 4gig etherchannel is that etherchannel is not very robust, and can go into error-disable mode if it doesn't like something.
