Understanding File Server Alias in WAAS

Hi Everyone,

I made a little lab with one Edge WAE, one Core and one Central Manager. WAFS works fine, but now I want to use the Cisco WAFS Benchmark Tool for Microsoft Office Applications Installation and Configuration Note. I have the following questions:

I used the default prefix (AS) in my configuration and my server name is HT0021, so the alias is AS-HT0021

1) I should create an entry in my DNS or WINS Server for the AS-HT0021 name ?

2) If yes, which IP should I use, the Edge WAE IP ? I tried to access the Edge WAE using \\IP and I couldn?t.

3) To use Alias I have to check the Wan disconnect mode ?

4) Last one :), is there any open mail list about WAAS available ?

Thanks in Advanced,

Andre Lomonaco

Andre,

1. Yes, you'll need an entry in (at least) DNS for name resolution to work properly.

2. You should create an A record with the hostname and IP address of the WAE. Then create a CNAME record with the alias name and point it to the A record of the WAE.

3. No. You just need to have Transparent Mode disabled.

4. This NetPro forum is the best resource for you to use.

Thanks,

Zach
