How to shutdown one module in 6513 switch

Answered Question
Aug 13th, 2007

There is a need to shut down ports on a blade before a change. Instead of shutting each port down, I want to bring the entire module down, perform change and bring the module up after my change. I prefer not to make any configuration changes to individual ports, do not want to use interface range command either. Any help is much appreciated.

Cat 6513 Switch

If you want power down the module,

You can view this,

into the paragraph: power enable.

I hope this is your objective.

Best regards.

hw-module module (mod #)

But, I think the Interface-range command with a Shut, no shut, would be safer. Even though it has been rare to happen, I have done this command on a single module and have had the switch loose adjacency with other routers for a second or two. The 6500 reconnected back very quickly, but it was long enough for some of our clustered servers to failover.

I suspect that the rebooting of the module takes a lot of processing time away from the sup engine.
