Cisco 4503 Chasis options

I am using a cisco 4503 chasis with sup engine sup2+TS.

I checked in cisco data sheets that backplane capacity for cisco 4503 chasis is 64gb.

Is it advisable to use a line card

WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V-Cisco Catalyst 4500 PoE 802.3af 10/100/1000, 48-port (RJ-45)

on cisco 4503 chasis.

Will it consume all the backplane capacity and impact the response time ?

Hi,

If you meet power requirements described in these links you should be good.

Go over these

power management requirements for PoE

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/20ewa/configuration/guide/pwr_envr.html#wp1035491

Also read this link Table 5 and ( table 8 for power consumption details for DATA and PoE )

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for your update.

I am not worried for power requirements, but I was wondering for the backplane usage. How to relate backplane usage with the line cards usage.

For ex:- how many and which type line cards we can use or if we will not use line cards,

Backplane usage, per se, isn't the issue, but the 6 Gbps to a line card slot might be.

WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V

? 48 ports

? 10/100/1000 (RJ-45)

? Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)EW or later

? IEEE 802.3af and Cisco prestandard PoE, IEEE 802.3x flow control

? Bandwidth is allocated across six 8-port groups, providing 1 Gbps per port-group

found in: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps4324/products_data_sheet0900aecd802109ea.html

Also see table 1, wire rate column.

To obtain wire rate, you'll need to use a connection that's on the sup, or use just one port in each group of 8. (On the line card, you can set your subscription rate by how many ports you use within the port group.)

PS:

If you haven't purchased these cards yet, you might want to look at the 3570G and 3570-E platforms.
