2801 & Cat 3560

Dear Friends,

Configured Cat 3560 switch with vlans and interroutes. Vlan communication happens perfectly. I have a 2801 series router which is connected to fa 0/47 port on the switch and is in another vlan. From the switch i can reach the router and vice-versa. But i am not able to reach the router from any of the clients from any Vlans. I can successfully reach all other desktops on any vlans. All client machines are directly connected to 3560.

Note: If i connect a PC to the same vlan as 2801, am able to reach.

Could any one please help me to find the solution to reach the router from any vlan.

Attaching the configuration of 2801 & 3560.

Thanks,

Sunoj

Hi,

The router needs and "ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.40.130.1" to return traffic from other VLANs.

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Do I have to add a static route even if the router is configured for the same network?

Cisco-2801#sh ip route

output omitted ..

Gateway of last resort is not set

10.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets

C 10.40.130.0 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/0

Regards,

Sunoj

Hi,

Your other VLANs are using different subnets other than 10.40.130.0/24 (be aware of your subnetmask) and thus to reach them back your router needs either a static route for each (10.40.90.0, 10.40.100.0, 10.40.110.0 and 10.40.120.0) or simply have a default route, it is the same concept that your PCs have their default gateway.

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Thanks for that explanation. You are an expert man.

Once again thank you very much.

Regards,

Sunoj

Hi Sunoj,

You are very welcomed :) and please never hesitate to come back if you have further issues.

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.
