WCCP, web content filtering and router performance

Hi Folks,

We are going to be piloting a web content filtering product and want to use it with WCCP. Due to equipment and lab restrictions, we have been unable to fully test the entire solution in our test lab and are concerned that we may encounter performance issues on the routers that have WCCP enabled. Is anyone out there using WCCP w/a web content filtering solution and, if so, would you be willing to share any performance issues you may have encountered with us?

Thanks in advance for any/all information!

Which router platforms are you planning to run WCCP on?

Hi Zach,

We will be using wccp on 6509s with Sup 720s. Our highwater mark is 500 MB of outbound HTTP.

With the Cat6k platform, you want to make sure that you are using the following WCCP features:

L2 Forwarding

Mask Assignment

Inbound Redirection

With this combination, the WCCP redirection instructions are programmed in ACL_TCAM, which allows for all of the redirection to occur in hardware (i.e. no impact on the MSFC CPU).
