CCNA: How to find a VTP server...

Answered Question
Aug 24th, 2007

Hi,

Just wondering how to find which switch is the VTP server (if you are connected only on a client) in a network of many switches with only 1 being the server & the rest all client?

The "show vtp status" does'nt tell you. I also checked the 2950 command & desktop switching guides but could'nt find anything on that. Maybe a debug on 1 of the trunk ports where vtp messages are received should be able to atleast point out an IP or MAC address.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Glen

I have this problem too.

show vtp status should tell you who last updated the vlan configuration - which should be the vtp server.
