CCDA - Suggestions for what I need to prepare for this exam

Unanswered Question

I passed my CCNA exam with a 986, and I'm currently interested in working towards my CCDA, so that I can eventually obtain the Cisco Data Center Networking Infrastructure Design Specialist Cert (CDCNID) cert.

I am about to begin studying for my CCDA exam, and according to the prerequisites it says I need CCNA level knowledge and BCMSN level knowledge. Has anyone passed the CCDA exam without taking the BCMSN exam? I plan on taking the BCMSN exam later; I just don't want to take it now. However if you all think I need it I probably will take it first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone has recommendations for study material for the CCDA that would be helpful as well (other than the usual cisco press material).

Thanks for the info, that helps me understand the difference between the self-study and the exam cert. guide. But what i was really wanting to know is whether or not i should take the BCMSN exam before i take the ccda exam. In the prereq. it says that BCMSN knowledge is required. In other words, can i take the CCDA exam without taking the BCMSN exam?

exams aside, you do need at least some of the ccnp level knowledge for the ccda, even if you haven't done the ccnp exams... not that you couldn't do the ccda w/o the knowledge, it will just be much tougher as you're essentially studying several different things at once - routing, switching, design.
