I have demand to make unequall cost load balancing of MPLS traffic on MPLS links. IGP is OSPF. What are my options?

Thanks

Hi,

unequal cost load balancing can be achieved with MPLS TE. You can create two or more tunnels to the same destination router, which will show up in your routing table. Each tunnel will get an IGP metric of the shortest possible path to the destination regardless of it's real path. CEF will do the load balancing based on the configurable reserved tunnel bandwidth.

For details regarding MPLS TE have a look at f.e. "Cisco IOS Multiprotocol Label Switching Configuration Guide, Release 12.4"

Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I'm aware of MPLS TE, but I was hoping for another simpler way. Is there any possibility to do it whit BGP?

Davor

Hi Davor,

With any routing protocol alone - besides EIGRP - you can only use equal cost load balancing, as those are the only routes inserted into RIB.

So MPLS TE seems to me to be the only way of doing this (except variance in EIGRP).

Hope this helps!

OK, thanks. I guess I'll go with TE then.

Davor

Davor, what Martin means is as an inherent quality unequal cost loadbalancing is only available in EIGRP.

If you are open to using other protocols in conjunction like BGP then here are couple of links which may be helpful to you.
