Difference between Zone Set and VSAN

It looks from the config the a Zone is the connection between the server and the switch port, is this correct?

Hi,

A zone can contain "connections" from server, port on switch, storage device or another server.

A zoneset is a collection of zones. One zoneset can be active in a vsan at a time.

A vsan (virtual san) is a means of segregating traffic from one SAN. You might want to do this to separate development traffic from production.

Why would you need more that one zoneset, if only one can be active?

Hi,

One reason to have multiple zonesets is for a backout procedure after making a change.

It is possible to clone your active zoneset to a new zoneset, make your changes then activate this new one.

If something went wrong you can simply re-activate the old zoneset.

vsan: an allocation of switch ports that can span multiple physical switches and forms a virtual switch (i.e. fabric). A single switch can contain multiple vsans.

zoneset: a set of zones. You zone a fabric and activate a zoneset against a fabric. Only 1 zoneset can be active in a fabric.
