ATM Technologies

Why don't the Cisco CCNA and CCNP programs cover ATM? I see this technology used everwhere. They seem to spend more of the training on Frame Relay.

I have this problem too.

ATM has been decaying as a technology of choice in new WAN implementations (ATM has significant limitations in terms of cost, complexity and scalability, soon to be replaced by cheaper and simpler IP-based networks), thats why Cisco has dropped its attention to it in all its certifications (Except for CCIE SP).

Please check the Successes and failures of ATM technology part:

Hi Ray,

Cheaper and simpler IP-based networks mainly GigaEthernet with mainly MPLS over it.
