Hello,
I currently have in my network, a 3524 as core switch. It's a fairly small network, ~60 customers (isp) on fibre/copper/dsl.
I recently bought a 4503 Switch with Supervisor II+TS (yep, the small one).
I'm afraid the 3524 switch (from 1897 i think) soon is at a life's end. Would it be better just removing the 3524, and instead use the 4503 as a core switch? The other option is bying a used 3550. I use a 7206VXR as a core router, and I'm not using any l3 functionality in the switches. The core switch just spreads vlans. Based on this, it's actually not fair to call it a core switch is it?

What was the initial purpose of 4503?

Customers mostly. Got two fibermodule cards installed. No other switches 'in front' of it.
(yet)
