In a centralized model, how does CCM differentiate between duplicate extension numbers over two sites?

For the case where the DNs are 5000 thru 5999 ...
You build a translation pattern in a site1 partition that converts 5XXX to 1015XXX.
You also build another translation pattern in a site2 partition that translates 5XXX to 1025XXX.

The extensions (ie. DNs) need to be unique. Typically each site has a prefix. Eg. site1 = 101, site2 = 102, so that extension 5000 in site1 is actually 1015000 and site2 is 1025000.
Use translation patterns to enable intra-site 4 digit dialing.
You could also use separate partitions and use non-unique DNs (eg. 5000), but centralized unity VM is more difficult to configure.

The three digit site location code is where we're going. There's no issue with that. This addresses and provides unique 7digit numbers.
However, if you have centralized model and branch office phones are registered with HQ CCM, then how will CCM know which phones to send the call to if the number being dialled in non-unique?
Could you perhaps expand just a little further on the translation pattern solution?
