Hi Mahesh

Attached is a link to IOS configuration of SNMP. In the doc are some configuration examples.

Make sure you choose a secure string as SNMP can be open to abuse.

Hi Mahesh,

If it's a Cisco router, it's a simple matter of configuring:

snmp-server community RO

and

snmp-server community RW

is whatever you choose to be your community string.

RO= read-only

RW= read-write

this should help:

and:

Hi Mahesh,

Please do review my response on the other forum:

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Network%20Infrastructure&topic=WAN%2C%20Routing%20and%20Switching&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddfacc2

another thing, if you have settled to run SNMP, then i'll recommend that you attach an ACL to constrain the SNMP access to the NMS IP as follows:

snmp-server community ro

where the ACL permits only the NMS IP.

Mohammed Mahmoud.
