VRRP Configuration

Good Day Sir,

I have two Cisco 2800 Series routers and would like to configure VRRP on these two routers on the LAN interfaces. Is it required to have an additional IP address for VRRP? Both these routers are connected to only ONE switch which in turn connects to our LAN. Please do guide me with the simplest steps in configuring VRRP.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Rumhy Varghese

Hi Rumhy,

Yes you need the virtual IP address of the VRRP group:, the simplest configurations is on both router:

interface fastethernet 0/0

ip address x.x.x.x

vrrp 1 ip y.y.y.y <-- Virtual group IP address, which you should use as the default gateway of your LAN

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.
