What is a VIF and why would I use it

What is a VIF, and why would I use it? I have heard people talk about it, but I am not sure what it is used for. It appears to be used in conjunction with multicast. I could not find any good articles on the web that talked about it.

Thanks,

Tim

I have this problem too.

Hi Tim,VIF is virtual host interface used in PGM.(reliable multicast). The vif enables the router to send and receive IP multicast packets on several different interfaces at once, as dictated by the multicast routing tables on the router.

Please go through this document for more info.
