Determine current number of TCP connections

Hi all

Is there an easy way to determine the number of TCP connections that are currently established through a router/interface? There is no NAT running, just straight routing.

We need to determine this information for capacity planning, and trying to do it with netflow accounting is proving extremely complicated.

There is no easy way. On the other hand, normally capacity planning is done on the basis of bandwidth, not number of flows.

If you want to try a different approach, configure the switch to span router port to a PC and use ntop.org

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

You might also want to look at the "IP accounting" command, but also check its possible impact before using.
