Hi,
I have a 2610XM running 12.2(8)T5 and a 2811 running 12.4(11)T3, with 2811 configured as HSRP active and 2610XM configured as HSRP standby.
2811 is able to recognize 2610XM as HSRP standby, but 2610XM is unable to recognize 2811 as HSRP active.
Is there a known bug related to this bad behaviour?
Thanks
Regards
Stefano

Please post the relevant configuration and the output of "sh stand".
Then we can have a look at it.

Hi Stefano, did you check the hsrp version on both the routers.I guess that is the problem. If you use the same version i think it will resolve the issue.

I think the HSRP version is 1 by default on all IOS release. Below the show stand:
GS-MPLS-Dep-Rivalta-R1#sh standby
FastEthernet0/0 - Group 1
State is Active
1 state change, last state change 00:36:56
Virtual IP address is 10.88.49.254
Secondary virtual IP address 10.0.2.254
Active virtual MAC address is 0000.0c07.ac01
Local virtual MAC address is 0000.0c07.ac01 (default)
Hello time 5 sec, hold time 15 sec
Next hello sent in 0.393 secs
Preemption enabled
Active router is local
Standby router is 10.88.49.253, priority 90 (expires in 11.286 sec)
Priority 120 (configured 120)
Track interface Serial0/0.1 state Up decrement 10
IP redundancy name is "hsrp-Fa0/0-1" (default)
GS-MPLS-Dep-Rivalta-R1#
GS-ISDN-Dep-Rivalta-R2#sh standby
FastEthernet0/1 - Group 1
State is Active
2 state changes, last state change 00:04:41
Virtual IP address is 10.88.49.254
Secondary virtual IP address 10.0.2.254
Active virtual MAC address is 0000.0c07.ac01
Local virtual MAC address is 0000.0c07.ac01 (v1 default)
Hello time 3 sec, hold time 10 sec
Next hello sent in 0.176 secs
Preemption enabled
Active router is local
Standby router is unknown
Priority 118 (configured 118)
IP redundancy name is "hsrp-Fa0/1-1" (default)

Hi ,
GS-MPLS-Dep-Rivalta-R1#sh standby
FastEthernet0/0 - Group 1
State is Active
GS-ISDN-Dep-Rivalta-R2#sh standby
FastEthernet0/1 - Group 1
State is Active
On both the routers state is active. One of the routers should show it as standby.
Can you paste the config of both the routers.
and how these two routers are connected.
Thanks :)

Why do you have diffferent Hello times and Hold times on each side? Nevertheless, I think it should work with those values. The MPLS router is sending every 5 seconds, and the ISDN router has a hold time of 10 seconds.
Check the native addresses of the F0/0 interfaces. It doesn't say on "show", but each router should have its own address (say, .252 and .253) which should be different again from the standby address (say, .254)
Try setting the timers the same and let us know if that makes any difference.
Otherwise, please post the config.

Unfortunately I haven't direct access to these routers and I cannot get the configuration right know.
Anyway, it seems that the problem was related to different HSRP timers configuration

GS-MPLS-Dep-Rivalta-R1# displays the priority of standby as 90.
But GS-ISDN-Dep-Rivalta-R2# is configured with priority value of 118. Can you post the configs. Also please check show logging output for any weird messages.

Hi nambi ,
if you check the show standby properly , priority of MPLS router is not 90..it is 120.
Cheers :)

Hi Satish,
I mentioned about the standby router's priority.
GS-MPLS-Dep-Rivalta-R1#sh standby
FastEthernet0/0 - Group 1
State is Active
1 state change, last state change 00:36:56
Virtual IP address is 10.88.49.254
Secondary virtual IP address 10.0.2.254
Active virtual MAC address is 0000.0c07.ac01
Local virtual MAC address is 0000.0c07.ac01 (default)
Hello time 5 sec, hold time 15 sec
Next hello sent in 0.393 secs
Preemption enabled
Active router is local
Standby router is 10.88.49.253, priority 90 (expires in 11.286 sec) <<<<<<<<<<<<
Priority 120 (configured 120)
Track interface Serial0/0.1 state Up decrement 10
IP redundancy name is "hsrp-Fa0/0-1" (default)
GS-MPLS-Dep-Rivalta-R1#
MPLS router says that HSRP standby priority is 90.But if you look at ISDN router it is configured with 118.

Yes you are correct..sorry for the mistake..
we can use dubug hsrp terse command to see exactly what is happening on both the routers.
Cheers :)
