Remote power supplies for AIR-PWRINJ-FIB

Does anyone know whether or not standard 802.3af PoE can be used to supply the power to this device? I have an application where I could terminate the pigtail onto an RJ45 and plug into an existing jack that has PoE supplied to it, but not data.

Hi Douglas,

This will not work :) This part AIR-PWRINJ-FIB is really a Media converter that requires the proper power supplied via the parts shipped with the unit. Have a look at the specs in the attached doc;

Input voltage (supplied by external power supply) 48VDC ? 10%, 18 watts

Hope this helps!

Rob

Well, it clears things up, but doesn't help much. :) I don't know why I hadn't seen the 18W before. Unfortunately, 802.3af maxes out at 15.4W.

Does anyone have any other ideas - I really would like to capitalize on the wiring already in place.

Ok, now I know why I was confused. The attached article shows that the AIR-PWRINJ-FIB takes 15W.
