Hi,

Just got an employment opportunity finally get into the arena of cisco voice after 1 year of seeking. Now the challenge is the learning curve of getting comfortable and master well in Cisco voice (IPT) just like my previous experience with a voice/tdm ip pbx brand. Would like to ask where should I start ? My new role will be in the area of implementation and believe will have alot of hands-on.

Anyone can gives any suggestion how to learn fast,smart and have that ability on level with my experience colleagues? It takes a lot of courage to step into a new product but I believe it is worth it for my career profile and future.

Thanks

yes - rare opportunity indeed.

fast learning curve:

1) Leave no stone unturned on your new journey

2) Configure and always test afterwards & make notes

3) Read as much as you can about this technology from Cisco.com amongst other places

4) Remain engaged on this forum since it is an excellent way to learn

5) If you do not have any Cisco Voice certification, then perhaps look at the path towards IPT Specialist or CCVP

6) Always plan for future growth in respect to the VoIP network - this will save you much time in the medium to longterm

Hi Alan,

Just to add a note to the excellent advice from Ajaz (5 points for your good 2 cents Ajaz!)

This is indeed a great opportunity for you here :) The nice thing for you is that it sounds like you have already gained Voice expertise so you are ahead of the curve. Remember that the same outcomes are desired whether you run traditional PBX or IPT deployments IPT is just a new/different medium! Just start reading/training/listening and learning. These forums have helped me a great deal along with some of the resources listed below;

Solution Reference Network Design

Design Guides - Unified Communications

Look into Cisco Press Books (there are a number of excellent titles);

If you have access to a Lab, get in there and start getting some "hands on" experience. This is the start of a fun road for you!

Hope this helps!
