correct me if im wrong but the tagging information is injected into the frame at the start of the trunk and removed at the end. This allows multiple vlans to communicate over multiple switches

The question is vague - so your comment is also valid, though by the use of the word "tag" you are specifically talking about .1q and excluding ISL.

If the question was about communication of existence of VLANs, VTP is the anser. If the question was about the tarnsfer of traffic over a trunk link such that traffic could be identified against a VLAN tagging and encapsulation are relevant.

Thanks for the information. But in Show VTP status, do i know what is the purpose of "MD5 digest: " and how to read this.
