I am using the show-mac-address table command and it only list outgoing ports. Is there other commands that can show where the mac address came from and where it will go out? (like when i send a data thru port fa0/1 and it will go out on port fa0/5) i know where it goes as i can physically see them but how about the MAC?

The mac address table says where devices are located, and thus where traffic *to* that address should be sent. The table is populated by inspecting the source address of packets received - "on this port I have seen 0800.0d12.3456, therefore I will send traffic to 0800.0d12.3456 to this port"

*anything* can send traffic to anything else, so there is no record in the switch of where traffic in a flow comes from.

If you mac table says:

Add#1 fas0/3

add#2 fas0/6

add#3 fas0/1

add#4 fas0/5

Traffic from add#1 to add#3 would be expected to go from fas0/3, and will be sent to fas 0/1.

Traffic fromm #4 to #3 will be extected on fas 0/5 and will be sent to fas 0#1 etc.
