I have a 3750 switch that is been used as a distribution switch. I have a number of vlans on the switch. This switch is connected to a catalyst 6500 switch through ospf. This connection has been in place for about 3 years now without a problem. Lately, the interface on the 3750 (gigabit port,L3) has been giving me sleepless nights. everyday, the port shuts down and i either have to restart the switch or remove the fiber cable and re-insert it before the link comes up. I am at wits-end. Can somebody tell me what could be the problem and suggest how I can get it fix.

There are several areas to check:
Check your logs to see of any port/interface issues from both sides
Check the port/interface stats for any excessive errors (Both sides)
revalidate your fiber cabling and see that all connectors are snugly in place (maybe someone messed with the cabling).
Do these basic checks and then see what you find... Good Luck...

Is this fiber? If it is 1000BaseSX, try changing the GBICs - they are terribly unreliable. I was told they use the same laser diodes as in cheap CD players, and they deteriorate with age.
It might be something else entirely, of course, but if you have any spare GBICs it is worth a go.
