We have 2 6509 with " with Supervisor Engine 720 IOS 12.2 ( 18 ) SXF8 " I need to activate the function ''Extended system ID''. I am configured in VTP transparent mode . When I am going to activate this function what is going on? Do I will have cuts or slowness to the network.

This allows to use up to 4094 vlans.i.e 14 bits will be used to store vlan id in various control packets. You need to remember that the extended vlans will not carried over VTP.Also from this extended vlans some vlans will be used internally.[show vlan internal usage"]. Enabling extended vlan will NOT slow down the system.

A typo.. 12 bits.

Thanks, I'll do it tomorrow morning

You need to check what the root bridges (and secondary) are set to. When you don't have extended system ID you can set ROOT to any numberical value. When you enable extended system ID you have to use 4096 (lowest) and go up in increments of 4096.

So if your roots today are set to "10" you need to change them to 4096.

so if your secondary roots today are set to "20" you set them to 8192.

The primary bridge root are set to 8192 and the secondary bridge root are set to 16384

Thanks
