Cisco 800 to Cisco 2811 bri to bri for data

Hi - We have a customer who is looking to connect their existing Cisco 800 ISDN BRI router to their Cisco 2811 Voice Gateway via the VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE. This is to allow for DDR data uploads instigated from a PC on the network via the Cisco 800. The first issue we are having is not getting layer1 up. Am I right in thinking the bri crossover with pinouts as in http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/788/signalling/bri_voice_port_cfg.html

is required?

I have read the TDM Switching guide at

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/tech/tk652/tk653/technologies_tech_note09186a00804794c6.shtml

but unsure if this will support the ppp authentication required from the 800 out through the 2811 E1 PRI.

Alternatively would using the data features available in 12.4.9 as detailed in

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5207/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00807f4833.html

be a better option and just remove the Cisco 800 altogether?

Thanks in advance

The thing is that the frature you linked, as I mentioned previusoly, is for PRI only, not BRI.

So if you want the 2811 to do data over BRI, you need a WIC-1B-S/T (I think you need V3 variance of that).

You would be able to connect both voice and data interface to the same ISDN BRI box from telecom because the multipoint nature of the S/T bus.

To connect directly, yes a crossed cable would be needed. However, the VIC2-2BRI does not support data at all including the 12.4.9

And I cannot see how the TDP features would helps in your scenarion.

Hope this helpos, please rate post if it does!

Thanks for the quick response.

The 2811 is currently set as their h323 voice gateway integrated with CUCM 5.1.2

The 800 basically has a dialler set to connect to another isdn router via ppp and uploads the data.

Whats your thoughts on removing the Cisco 800 altogether and configuring the data dialler interfaces on the 2800 as per:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5207/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00807f4833.html

Thanks again

The VIC2-2BRI-NT/TE has 2 X BRI S/T ports in it. Would these not support data?

Thanks again.
