E1 Interface unexpectedly changing state - Admin Down

Hi,

I have a 2800 with an E1 Interface which is used to connect to a Westel Gateway which then connects into an Erricson MD110.

We are experiencing an unusual problem in that the interfaces are going down then coming up. However when they are going down they are logged as follows:

ep 20 15:17:28.446: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(27), changed state to Administrative Shutdown

Sep 20 15:17:28.446: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(28), changed state to Administrative Shutdown

Sep 20 15:17:28.446: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(29), changed state to Administrative Shutdown

Sep 20 15:17:28.450: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(30), changed state to Administrative Shutdown

Sep 20 15:17:28.450: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(31), changed state to Administrative Shutdown

Sep 20 15:17:28.862: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(1), changed state to up

Sep 20 15:17:28.862: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(2), changed state to up

Sep 20 15:17:28.862: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(3), changed state to up

Sep 20 15:17:28.866: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface 0/1/0:15(4), changed state to up

This occurs on all interfaces.

And even though it says administratively down, no user has logged to make a config change.

We were told that this may have been a problem with the previous IOS and we thought it was solved when we upgraded to the current IOS because the problem didnt occur for over a week.

However our elation seems to be short lived as it has started reoccuring.

Hi,

How often is this happening?

Is the gateway MGCP? And if so maybe it is the result of a gateway reset from CallManager?

Do your route patterns in callmanager use route lists and route groups? or are you pointing straight at the gateway?

Might be worth posting your config.

Cheers,

Tim.

Could potentially be a cable issue. Or failing that HW. I would definitely swap out the cable to eliminate that for starters.

Was this happening more often with the previous code?

Another suggestion is whether you have configured this gateway for SRST H323 fallback from MGCP?

Typically when the back-haul interface unregisters you will see the the voice-ports adminstratively shutdown.

If this is the case then I would investigate why the gateway could no longer register with CCM? Ethernet? Routing reconvergence?

Regards

Allan.

The fact that the interface state is changing to 'Administratively Shutdown', does seem to suggest that CCM has a hand to play in this. Or does this admin down condition come to surface when backhaul connectivity is interrupted?, dont think so personally - in that case isdn layer3 starts to complain from my experience.
