G.729 Vs. G.711 over MPLS WAN

We have a Hosted Call manager solution where we use G.729 codec globally over our MPLS netwrk. We have sufficient bandwtdth to support G.711 (at 80K per call). We would like to convert from G.729 to G.711 to eliminate the unneccessary use of DSPs for transcoding.

Is there any con to using G.711 over the wan if you have the bandwidth? Thanks

Hi Michael,

The use of g.711 over the WAN is of course what everybody would like to do if they had the requisite bandwidth :) This simplifies what you have noted, the need Transcoding enhanced conferencing etc etc. I can't think of any downside to this enviable design!

Hope this helps!
