VPN Client breaks local network / fails to connect

Hi,

We have a strange issue. We are using VPN client to connect. It works fine on my XP laptop, but on a desktop, with the same profile, it fails.

This is what happens:

Connects to server

Asks for user id and password

User id and password is entered.

It then sits there saying 'negotiating security policies' and never connects. It eventually times out.

We see that it stop the windows IPSec service. It also seems to break the windows networking, as we cannot ping anything, even the default gateway.

We have turned up the logging but there is nothing obvious.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

If there is any other vendor's vpn client installed try deinstaling it.

If not try installing a different version of cisco vpn client

Hi Paul,

I am reading you post with great interest. We seem to be having the exact same problem.

A user tries to conenct to our VPN using the Cisco VPN Client - they enter their login crededntials and then it sits there saying 'negotiating security policies' and never moves on from this.

It only seems to happen intermittently and usually after a few reboots or after 10-20 minutes it goes back to working.

Have you been able to find a solution to this?

Thanks,

Cameron
