guys just a quick one.....when we configure IKE phase 2 where we put crypto ipsec isekamp ESP-DES esp-md5-hmac....now correct me if i am wrong this is what my understanding is the first (ESP-DES) says that security protocol would be ESP and DES would b ethe encrytion type.....now the second part says that ESP would b ethe security protocol which will use ....md5 as austhentication???? now what does Hmac?? means....guys please help me out

HMAC (hashed message authentication code) does authentication using a hash (in your case md5) in combination with a shared secret key.

As a side note, the HMAC simultaneously provides data integrity in addition to origin authentication.
