Hello i recently installed a 4404 controller and puchased some 1130 LWAPP aps. Today i am brinign trying bring up a 1130 ap on that new controller. The ap is registering to it however the Radios will not come up and i am getting this text on the AP's themselves.

*Sep 26 14:56:02.041: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset

*Sep 26 14:56:02.042: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio1, changed state to reset

I can change paramaeters on the ap and reset it from the controller however i cannot get the radios to come up.

I currently have 2 of my older 1000 aps up and working fine on the controller

any help is appreciated.

Hi Scott,

You are most welcome! This one threw us for a whole afternoon as the AP worked fine in the lab but not in production finally it dawned on us that it was a Switch PoE issue and not something else :) Put on a few miles that day.

Take care,

Rob

Hi Scott,

We had this happen to us recently due to a PoE problem. The 1130 requires either IEEE 802.3af power or needs a setting on the WLC for using power injector or Cisco Pre-Standard PoE. Our older switches could only provide Cisco Pre-Standard PoE so we had to tweak the WLC Power setting for these AP's. Once we did that the Radios came right up. Here is a reference;

You may have to enter the following info in the WLC;

While the AP boots, with its Intelligent Power Management feature, it negotiates with the switch via Cisco Discovery Protocol messages in order to provide the necessary power to the AP. Even though the power injector is connected to the AP, the AP that uses this Intelligent Power Management feature gives priority to the Cisco Discovery Protocol information in order to identify whether or not the switch can provide the power. Therefore, after the Cisco Discovery Protocol message shows that the switch does not provide sufficient power (since it is not an inline power capable switch), the AP disables its radios. At this time, the status LED of the AP turns orange and this error message is recorded:

[ERROR] : AP has not enough in-line power

to enable radio slot 1 In order to overcome this problem, issue the

config ap power injector enable installed

command on the controller that is connected with this AP. This command is available from controller version 3.2.116.21. Ensure that you use the correct version in the controller.

This command specifies that a power injector is used in order to supply sufficient power to the AP.

From this doc;

Hope this helps!

Hi Rob,

We had the same issue and the Switch PoE was the culprit. I rate it a 5 for all the miles you logged that day trying to figure that one out.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks my friend :) It's always something to keep the old brain thinking isn't it! Of course we had already mounted the AP (10 foot step ladder etc) and then proceeded back and forth from one end of the Campus to the other. We will remember this for next time as this was our first install of a newer generation AP on an older generation PoE switch. All of our existing AP's had been converted Autonomous models.

Take care and Thanks Again!

Rob
