CCNP re-cert... which test to take?

Answered Question
Sep 27th, 2007

I have a question about the logistic of the CNCP re-cert. My expiration date is coming up and I want to know if I can take the 842-811 test to re-cert. here are some bullet points i'm trying to make:

- I think I'ce took the composite exam to get my CCNP before and I notice now that the CCNP trak no longer use the 842-811 but instead it use the 842-812.

- I've pretty sure I can pass the 842-811, but the 842-812 will require me to hit the books a little.

- I also notice that VUE still offer the 842-811 test.

- I think I saw somewhere on the cisco training site that they are expiring the 842-811 exams.

OK we have gone full circle with this one, can I currently take the 842-811 exms and be able to re-cert my CCNP? any help will be great.

Hi, lambdagod

642-811 has retired since 12/31/2006. I don't think you can pass a retired exam to recertify your CCNP.

The current exam available is 642-812:

Checking the exam topic, I discover that the only new topic added on the new exam is WLAN. All the other topics are the same. So, if you are confident with the old exam, then you will probably have no problem to pass the new exam.

Thank you, I'm have a feeling that cisco will not accept expire exams as a re-cert. It was problaby wishing thinking since I do see the exam available at VUE website and the Cisco site just state that I could re-cert with any 842-XXX exam. Oh well, I guess it's time for me to update my knowledge base anyway. Thank you.

I'm still interest in hearing from someone with intimate knowledge of Cisco testing logistic to see if it is possible to re-cert with Cisco's expire exam. does anyone know for sure? we can only guess...

hurrah.. hurrah..

After 12 hours of cramming and 6x 2-liters of Mountain Dew, I pass my 642-812 exams. And to my surpirse, my score is 970.

I wonder.. some cyclist got disqualify for using enchancing drugs.. I wonder if I get dis-qualify on my test for using brain enchancing drug (ie. Mountain Dew).. :)

Now for my much needing sleep.. cheers.. and thank you for your guys support.
