Does a mac address for serial interface exist? If so, how can i look for it in a router?

I believe Serial operates at the Layer 2.

Hi, J_Vansen_S

Only 802.3 frame uses MAC address; and a serial port is typically encaped by hdlc, ppp or frame-relay. All these types of frames don't use MAC address. So, you won't see the MAC address on a serial port.

Hi,

Only LAN interfaces like ethernet, FDDI interfaces uses MAC address.

Serial interfaces don't use MAC address, since its directly connected to the peer.

In HDLC-like serial interfaces, the Address field is a single octet, which contains the binary sequence 11111111.

For more information,

read RFC 1661- The Point-to-Point Protocol
