Unity 4.0.5 vm only going to unified messaging

We are currently running 4.0.5 with voicemail only, but wish to upgrade AND enable unified messaging. However, we do not want to store the voicemails on our main exchange cluster, rather have them on the unity box (or another box built for this purpose) with hooks back to the main exchange cluster (exchange 2003). is something like this possible?

Hi -

Unified messaging means all message types (email, voicemail, and fax) in one inbox. So Unity will take the voice message and, providing the recipient's Exchange server is operational, forward it immediately to the information store that contains the user's inbox. The voice messages also need to remain in the inbox for them to be played back via the telephone user interface and for message waiting to properly occur. Just curious, why would you not want the voice messages on your main cluster?

Ginger

ginger,

I understand how unified messaging operates, but the reason we wanted voicemails in a different physical store was to ease the storage load on our main exchange cluster. If there was a way to have it linked in, or some kind of reference, that would be ideal.
