You probably have a bad file or a corrupt flash.

try uploading a new IOS image via Xmodem and boot the router. If even this fails, then you probably need to get a new flash

BTW, the file you are trying to boot does not seem to be the IOS name. Did you change it previously by any chance while loading it on the router?

Narayan

Narayan,

I?ve tried a few images. If I put the flash in another router it works!

If I try to load an image into the ram i get the following output:

rommon 2 > xmodem -r -c c3725-is-mz.122-15.T17.bin

Download Complete!

program load complete, entry point: 0x80008000, size: 0x1165c54

Smart Init is disabled. IOMEM set to: 25

Are you sure you are trying to load a compatible IOS. I have seen this tyoe of behaviour when we try to load an image which requires additional memory than which is present in the box

Narayan

Narayan,

this ist the image that has been running until 2 weeks before.

Uwe

Narayan,

I will close the case.

The students have exchanged the original cisco DRAMs against cheaper ones. The originals from another router work.

Thanks for all

The message I particularly noticed was: bad file magic number

There are several causes for this:

1: corrupted file

2: corruption of the flash file system

3: image unsuitable for this platform

Suggestions for recovery:

- Try another image

- Try to boot from a different location (i.e. slot0:)

- Format your flash and re-install the image

- Verify image is suitable for your router

regards,

Leo

Uwe

I notice in your post that your router has compact flash as slot0. The CF is frequently where images are stored. Can you do a dir slot0 or a show slot0 and lets see if perhaps there is another image available there which could be used to boot the router.

There isn?t a. And unfortunately it is a DOS filesystem, so I can`t boot from there.

I had a similiar problem with a 1760 router. My router had an additional 32m flash in it that was bad. Replaced it and it booted fine.
