Problem Running ATom (Ethernet) Between a 3750 Metro and a 6500

We are attempting to connect a port on a 3750 metro to a port on a 6500(3BXL) using Atom. We have are currently running MPLS between them and they are doing L3Vpn with vrfs. We attempted to build the connection by issuing xconnect commands between them. The l2 vc appears to come up but traffic does not appear to pass properly. We are running 12.1(14)AX3 on the 3750 metro's , and 12.2(18)SXD5 on the 6500. I noticed that on the 3750 the port must be configured as a layer 2 port and on the 6500 the port must be configured as a routed port to issue the xconnect command. Is it support to do atom between a 3750 metro and a 6500?

Keep the port types alike on both sides for traffic to pass. You cannot configure ATOM on a port in 3750 if its not an ES port.

The ES ports would be your Gi1/1/1 Gi1/1/2

Alternatively you can try running ATOM between vlan interfaces on both 3750 and 6500 side.

For this you will need OSM on your 6500.

Or Try configuring ATOM on 3750 on a VLAN and a subinterface for that vlan on 6500.

If you do the above it should work.

Are you sure you can only configure ATOM on the ES ports? I was able to configure ATOM beween a pair of the 3750's and it seemed to work fine from the standard ethernet ports. Doesnt make much since that you would only be able to configure atom on the ES ports since that wouldnt be very usefull.

Yes thats correct, the restrcition applies only for MPLS and not for EOMPLS. Eompls support seems to be there on standard and ES ports, only MPLS is there on ES ports.

Although the other pointers provided in the previous post should be useful.
