Pauses on LAN connections

We are experiencing occasional pauses on our LAN connections. The majority of the pauses seem to be noticed in outlook but they also occur when printing to print servers connected to a domain controller so it doesn't appear to be related to one specific server. Users connected to Citrix servers experience pauses in outlook but they are still able to open word docs in their citrix session when this is happening. Spanning tree appears to be working correctly so there don't appear to be loops in the network. I have done a sniff on the network and noticed around 20000 TCP window updates between citrix servers and clients in approximately 5 minutes. Baring in mind that there was over 600000 packets captured in those 5 minutes.

Does this amount of TCP window size updates seem strange or is this normal?

Thanks
