Frame-Relay over Ethernet

Dear All,

I am looking for running Frame-Relay encapsulation over 10BaseT or 100BaseT port or Ethernet /Fastethernet port. I understand that the default encapsulation comes as ARPA since it works on CSMA/CD protocol.

Is there any possiblity to use Frame-Relay over Ethernet WAN link.

no- they are both layer 2 protocols. Frame Relay only runs on serial interfaces.

You can do FR switching over a GRE tunnel, so yes, you can transport FR on any media.

Remember to set IP MTU correctly when using GRE tunnels!

Please share the possible config to do the Frame-Relay encapsulation on Ethernet Lastmile with DLCI no. on GRE Tunnel.

This requires advanced ip service image, in the past required enterprise image.

Thanx for your inputs and would surely rate your post. My requirement was completely different as the way have you interpreted.

1. I donot have serial connection.

2. I want to use Frame-Relay encapsulation.

3. I have ethernet 10Mbps WAN link.

Now please share your comments incase i can use Frame-Relay over Ethernet.

Hi,

Why would you want to use Frame-Relay? What is your underlying problem you want to solve using FR over Ethernet?

Seems more information is needed to find some answers useful to you.
