Sorry, but this is not supported.

Important to note that ANM v1.2 due in November adds a purchasable license to add delegated (RBAC controlled) activation/suspension of real and virtual servers (services) for CSS, CSM and CSM-S devices, along with a modicum of basic monitoring of those devices. The activation/suspension is very similar to that of HSE/HSS 1.9 release.

Of course you can run the client for ANM and the client for HSE/HSS from the same workstation (side by side), since ANM does not utilize any client-side Java.

You say that "The activation/suspension (for CSSes) is very similar to that of HSE/HSS 1.9 release"

I've looked at this bit of the product and it looks like the only option is to pull a real server immediately when working with CSSes.

Are there any plans to make this feature the same as HSE/HSS so that it's possible to optionally set the weight of real servers to 0 (for clean shutdown).

The absence of this HSE/HSS feature in ANM is stopping us migrating.

This is not supported because:

(1) HSE is turnkey closed appliance

(2) ANM is only supported on dedicated customer supplied server

(3) Even if Cisco re-worked HSE, the underlying hardware (1105 nor 1140) does not have sufficient resources required.

Similarly, ANM and HSS are not supported for shared platform operations. Past the incompatibilities and contentions involved, even given sufficient underlying server configuration, neither is officially supported under virtualization (see other threads on this topic).

What was done though is that servers meeting specification for HSS also meet specification for ANM, enabling re-use as ANM host.

Cheers,
