What is the use of creating an SVI separately on an L3 and physical interfaces separately?

Hi Aksher,

You create SVI on a layer 3 interface which acts like a default gateway /layer 3 interface for your clients which are in that particular vlan.

Because they are logical interfaces and do not have any physical interface you have to bind that vlan at layer 2 to some physical interface also but that is just a layer 2 binding and then you ca nconnect your end machine to that physical interface and define its gateway address as ip address you configured for that layer 3 SVI.

Good your explicate It may not be a good diverse.

But I have doubt how to create SVI what are steps and the commands shall we use can u provide that few steps and commands it will great appreciated.

To create a layer 3 interface

Switch(config)#interface vlan

Switch(config-if)#ip address x.x.x.x

You can use the same command with different vlan number and subnet address for multiple SVIs.
