Hello,
I was wondering what tools people are using to track available switch ports, and if you would recommend the tool you are using.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
I use NetMRI (www.netcordia.com) to track switchports. For example it can tell me ports with multiple MAC addresses, unused down ports, and unused up ports.

If you have Ciscoworks, you can do this with User Tracking reports. I run user tracking for a location, then export it to MS Excel. From there I can sort it by device and port. I also bump the MAC up against another Excel spreadsheet containing the IEEE OUI assignments so that the report includes the NIC mfg. of each device seen on the network.
