1605 Salutation Manager (Salutation Protocol)

Hello all,

I was sniffing my PC at work just for practice and I noticed that I was using port 1605 Salutation Manager (Salutation Protocol) after clicking on my outlook icon. I also saw it on my PC using netstat connecting to my e-mail server that I use for internal e-mail at work.

What exacly is this protocol doing and how does it function?

This is a model

* Architected reference implementation.

* Middelware to isolate application provider from protocl specifies.

* Service broker for capabilites information.

Three functional categories:

1.Capability exchange

query, reply capability.

2.Availability Check

check FU availability, Reply FU availabilty

3.Service Request

Open service, ACK service, Transfer Data, Close Service
