Hi...
We have a requirement to produce a detailed mapping of hostname vs. MAC address vs. switch port vs. IP address. We need to produce this mapping for a fairly large server farm with various hardware (Wintel and Sun), and extremely little documentation.
Does anyone know of any network management tool that can automate this type of discovery? Maybe not the whole thing. At the very least, if the tool can automate discovery of MAC-to-switch port mapping, it will already be a great help. Mapping to IP and then hostname can then be more easily performed. The biggest challenge for us is the first 2 layers.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
Solarwinds have two tools as part of their Engineers edition which will map MAC address to cisco switch port and resolve dns at the same time.
MAC address discovery and
Switch Port Mapper

Thanks. I was actually thinking that SolarWinds might have something, but a colleague insisted that he had downloaded and tested SolarWinds, and found that it didn't have that functionality.
I'll download it and see it myself, I suppose...
