I have a cisco 876 router and yesterday appeared a problem on it.It cannot load the flash file. The following context appears:

System Bootstrap, Version 12.3(8r)YI1, RELEASE SOFTWARE

Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport

Copyright (c) 2005 by cisco Systems, Inc.

C870 series (Board ID: 6-148) platform with 131072 Kbytes of main memory

flashfs[0]: unable to allocate available block.

flash: file system initialization failed

Could not open boot directory: flash:/

Unable to open boot file

I would like to ask if I download the IOS again and flash it, will it work again ?

Do I have to do something else ?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Friend,

You need a valid CCO login to check the bug details but I have mentioned the bug description which matches your router symptoms.

You can upgrade the router using tftpdnlc command or if that does not work then using xmodem. Have a look at this link and see if this helps

Hi Elias,

I believe your router is hitting a bug CSCsc24057.

Below I've included the link where you can check the bug details:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCsc24057+&Submit=Search

The affeted versions are the releases in the 12.3(8)YI1 train.

An upgrade to the 12.4 train should fix the issue. Also format the flash before upgrading to 12.4 train.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I cannot check the link you sent me because it requires additional entitlement.

Is there any other way I can check the bug list ?

In case I won't check the list, can I proceed to the upgrade and how am I going to do it?

Thank you again.
